Miss Liberty Controversy. The identity of the model for the obverse Lady Liberty of the quarter is a bit of a controversy. As early as 1917, the model used by Hermon MacNeil to conceptualize the depiction of Liberty was reported to be Doris Doscher, who would later become a silent film actress under the stage name Doris Doree.

Worth

Additional Info: The 1921 S Quarter Standing Liberty is a nice quality coin. The S or San Francisco minted coin is the most valuable by far. The mint mark is on the front left bottom, near the star.

Numismatic vs Intrinsic Value:This coin in poor condition is still worth $304.08 more than the intrinsic value from silver content of $4.92, this coin is thus more valuable to a collector than to a silver bug. Coins worth more to a collectors may be a better long term investment. If the metal prices drop you will still have a coin that a numismatic would want to buy.
